British Water Polo Championships 2021

The weekend started with the Manchester men losing to Invicta 4-2 having led 2-0 at half time, probably the only disappointing half by any of the Manchester teams over the weekend. The Women were next up and opened their account with a comfortable  9-4  win against Sheffield. The men ended Saturday with a  must win game against Sutton & Cheam and duly obliged winning 10-7 .This meant a bronze playoff match against Sheffield for the men. The women overcame Hucknall after some stubborn defence from Tim Dunsbee's team, Manchester scoring 5 goals in last quarter. Theo had given the youngsters plenty of game time knowing not all would get as much time in the final.

Sunday would see Manchester Men play Sheffield for the bronze and Manchester Women play local rivals Liverpool for the gold. As predicted the showers came but play continued. The Men finished with their best performace of the weekend beating Sheffield 14-8 to gain the bronze.

The final match of the weekend was Manchester V Liverpool Women for the gold. The teams could not be separated, the score was  8-8 going into the last quarter. 2 goals from Emma and Steph secured the win for Manchester 10-8.

Many thanks to Theo and his team plus Dawn for her live updates on twitter.

Great to see competitive water polo back with the return of the British Water Polo Championships.  Sandford parks lido proved once again to be a great venue and the event was well organised by Cheltenham water polo.

The socal media coverage both prior and during the tournament was excellent.
